Benvenue Medical named 20-year industry veteran Jeffrey Jones chief operating officer.

Mr. Jones is now responsible for working with the senior management team to develop current and long term plans, objectives and policies. He also directs the company's operations, manufacturing, development and quality departments. Benvenue Medical is focused on developing minimally invasive solutions for spine repair, and this is a newly-created position for Mr. Jones.

"Jeff brings a wealth of experience in scaling the operations of medical device companies," said Benvenue Medical CEO Robert Weigel. "We're happy to have Jeff join our senior management team as we continue to drive commercialization of Kiva VCF Treatment System as well as our other current and future products."

Mr. Jones has experience as vice president of operations at Acclarent, which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2010. He was also responsible for supporting rapid sales growth, supply chain, manufacturing operations, process engineering, materials, purchasing, facilities and environmental health and safety. He has been COO in several medical device start-ups.

In June, Benvenue Medical secured $64 million in financing with the intention of using the proceeds to build its United States commercial presence, scale up manufacturing, increase administrative functions to support overall corporate growth and provide working capital to fund growth in operating activities. The company also named InterWest Partners' Gil Kliman, MD, to its board of directors.

"Benvenue Medical is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting companies in the spine category," said Dr. Kliman in a news release. "We're happy to be part of the significant positive momentum that clearly shows how well-positioned the company is for considerable commercial success in the global spine market."

The company is also preparing to submit additional products to the FDA for approval. The Kiva VCF has FDA approval and is responsible for much of the company's growth this year.
