A few Des Moines (Iowa) hospitals have imposed limits on prescription painkillers to curb abuse, according to a Des Moines Register report. Mercy Medical Center's ER and urgent care clinics only prescribe pain medication for emergency conditions. When patients are given prescriptions, they only receive a small amount until they are able to see their regular physicians.
