Orthopedic surgeon takes medical mission trip to Panama: 4 details

Spokane, Wash.-based Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists' orthopedic surgeon A. Kirk Reichard, MD, traveled to Panama this spring to provide joint replacement surgeries for those needing orthopedic care, according to the Spokane Journal.

Here are four details:

1. Dr. Reichard completed the medical mission in April with Los Angeles-based Operation Walk, a nonprofit dedicated to providing free joint surgery replacements to those in need throughout the U.S. and in various developing countries.

2. While in Panama, Dr. Reichard and four other teams of orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants, nurses and anesthesiologists completed 60 joint replacements.

3. Operation Walk provides joint replacement procedures for patients with arthritis.

4. Dr. Reichard specializes in total joint replacement and adult reconstruction surgery, including joint arthritis and inflammatory conditions, degenerative issues and failed joint surgery.
