Orthopedic surgeon leader to know: Dr. Peter Callander of California Pacific Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine

Peter W. Callander, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon practicing at California Pacific Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in San Francisco. He also serves as chief of education in the orthopedics department at California Pacific Medical Center. He is a company physician for the San Francisco Ballet as well as a team physician for the Sugar Bowl Ski Team.

Dr. Callander has a professional interest in hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive surgery, joint reconstruction and revision hip and knee replacements. He was one of the first U.S. physicians selected to train with Derek McMinn, MD, inventor of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing technique, after the procedure received FDA approval. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Western Orthopedic Association. He is actively involved in humanitarian medical work.

 

Dr. Callander earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, Davis, and his hip and knee replacement surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery/Cornell University in New York City.
