Becker’s has reported on eight professional athletes having orthopedic surgery so far in 2024.

1. Dharmesh Vyas, MD, PhD, head team physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins, performed laparoscopic knee surgery on the NHL team’s forward Matt Nieto.

2. Keith Meister, MD, performed shoulder surgery in Dallas on Kendall Graveman, a pitcher for the Houston Astros.

3. Neal ElAttrache, MD, performed knee surgery on T.J. Hockenson, a tight end for the Minnesota Vikings.

4. Dr. ElAttrache performed knee surgery on Charles Omenihu, a defensive end for the Kansas City Chiefs.

5. Dain Allred, MD, was slated to operate on Real Salt Lake midfielder Pablo Ruiz’s anterior cruciate ligament tear.

6. Dr. ElAttrache was scheduled to perform shoulder surgery on Indiana Pacers guard  Bennedict Mathurin.

7. Jeffrey Dugas, MD, was scheduled to perform a shoulder operation in Birmingham, Ala., on Lucas Giolito, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

8. Timur Urakov, MD, performed a microscopic partial discectomy on Brooklyn Nets guard and forward Ben Simmons.
