Wisconsin hospital records 163 shoulder replacements annually with new robot: 3 highlights

Orthopedic

Within a year, Waukesha, Wis.-based Pro-Health Orthopedic Care and surgeons at the Pewaukee-based Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin completed 163 shoulder replacements with new robotic technology, according to Greater Milwaukee Today Online.

Here are three highlights:

1. The hospital acquired the ExactechGPS, a guided personalized surgery technology, in December 2017.

2. The robot provides a 3D visual map of the patient's joint to help surgeons better understand the patient's anatomy before entering the operating room.

3. Orthopedic surgeons Rick Papandrea, MD, Scott Schneider, MD, Christopher Kilian, MD, and Samuel Steiner, MD, performed the 163 shoulder replacements.

“The innovative navigation offered by ExactechGPS pairs the surgeon’s expertise and an advanced computer system with the goal of improved accuracy and precision,” John May, ProHealth’s vice president of ambulatory services, told Greater Milwaukee Today Online. “This technology offers significant benefits for our patients.”
