When asked if a physician felt fairly compensated, more than 55 percent responded positively, according to Medscape's 2018 Physician Compensation Report.
Medscape's survey included 20,000 physicians across more than 29 specialties on compensation.
A little over half of orthopedic surgeons, 51 percent, said they felt they were fairly compensated, leaving 49 percent feeling a lack of importance about accomplishments or frustrated with their workload.
Emergency medicine physicians responded the most positively to the survey, with 74 percent saying they were fairly compensated. On the tail end, only 46 percent of physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians felt they were fairly compensated.
When asked how much more they should earn annually, majority of specialty physicians, 45 percent, responded with 11 percent to 25 percent more. Thirty-one percent of specialty physicians said they want to see a 26 percent to 25 percent increase in their annual salaries.
