Orthopedists Report Top 2012 Compensation Among Other Specialties

Overall, physician compensation is on the rise, and orthopedic physicians receive, on average, higher compensation than other specialists, according to "Physician Compensation Report 2013," released by Medscape.
For the report, researchers surveyed 21,878 U.S. physicians across 25 specialties from Feb. 1 to 28, 2013.

The average annual salaries of physicians from the top five specialties, according to the report, are:

Orthopedics — $405,000
Cardiology — $357,000
Radiology — $349,000
Gastroenterology — $342,000
Urology — $340,000
