1. The stress fractures can manifest as lower back or hip pain, or as general weakness, often leading to a lack of treatment in those who suffer with it.
2. Zero to 10.5 percent of all stress fractures are pelvic stress fractures.
3. Causes of pelvic stress fractures include poor flexibility, muscle imbalance and running style.
4. Switching up speed or distance of training simultaneously can also overload the body.
5. Rosemarie Boehm, MD, of Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, noted six tips to avoid pelvic stress fractures in Philly.com, including:
- Cross-training to build strength and flexibility
- Resting your body
- Eating enough calcium and Vitamin D
- Making gradual changes to your training routine.
- Wearing appropriate footwear.
- Having your gait analyzed.
