NBA Physicians Association taps Dr. Travis Maak as president

Orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Travis Maak, MD, has been tapped as the president of the National Basketball Association Physicians Association for the 2024 and 2025 season.

Dr. Maak currently serves as the director of orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City, according to a June 14 press release. 

In his role as president, Dr. Maak will work with the NBA, the National Basketball Players Association and the physicians association to prioritize athlete health, spearheading injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation initiatives. 

Dr. Maak will also continue to serve as head team physician for the Utah Jazz, which has worked with the University of Utah Health since 2014. 

Dr. Maak is one of the longest tenured physicians with the NBAPA, and has held numerous positions including chairman of its research committee and secretary treasurer and vice president of its executive committee.
