Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center has opened a new 530,000-square-foot, nine-story medical pavilion with the latest orthopedic 'smart hospital' technology.

The pavilion includes four orthopedic robots for joint replacement procedures, six da Vinci robotic surgical systems and a musculoskeletal institute and immediate care rooms.

It also has 24 operating rooms, 72 post-anesthesia beds and 50 intensive care unit beds, according to a Jan. 23 press release.

Six of its operating rooms are set up for robotic surgery and minimally invasive orthopedic procedures.

The center will also house New Jersey's first intraoperative MRI system for neurosurgical procedures.
