Dr. Kevin Williams trial date for $1M kickback scheme delayed until 2019 — 3 notes

The trial date for a federal healthcare fraud case involving orthopedic surgeon Kevin Williams, MD, along with seven other physicians and pharmacists, has been pushed back from July 9, 2018 to June 2019 at the earliest, according to The Ennis News.

Here are three things to know.

1. Waxahachie, Texas-based Dr. Williams formerly practiced at Ennis (Texas) Doctors Center. He is accused of receiving large monetary kickbacks in exchange for signing off on costly prescriptions for compound pain creams and patches.

2. One physician involved in the scheme allegedly agreed to pay Dr. Williams $1 million per month for his work as medical director of Greentree Health in Austin, Texas, according to documents filed in federal court. The salary was actually a built-in kickback.

3. According to chiropractor Garry Craighead, Dr. Williams frequently did not see the patients for whom he prescribed medication.
