The Knee Society honors Dr. Craig Della Valle: 5 things to know


Craig Della Valle, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, received The Mark Coventry, MD Award from The Knee Society.

The Knee Society Education Committee selected Dr. Della Valle's paper "Oral Antibiotics Reduce Reinfection Following 2-Stage Exchange: A Multi-Center Randomized Trial" for the award. He will present the paper at the 2016 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting.


Here are five key notes on Dr. Della Valle:


1. He is the past director of the adult reconstructive fellowships at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and currently a professor in orthopedic surgery.


2. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Della Valle has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications on topics such as partial, primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty.


3. Dr. Della Valle has been secretary for the board of directors of The Hip Society and a member-at-large for the board of directors of The Knee Society. He is currently the education committee chairman for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.


4. He has a special interest in hip and knee replacement and resurfacing.


5. Dr. Della Valle earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his fellowship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He also underwent an orthopedic research fellowship at New York University-Hospital for Joint Diseases.
