AppOrtho now offers robotic-assisted TKR

Boone, N.C.-based Appalachian Regional Healthcare System purchased Smith & Nephew’s Navio Surgical System for total knee replacement surgery, according to the Watauga Democrat.

AppOrtho at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, part of ARHS, is the first orthopedic practice in Western North Carolina to offer robotic-assisted partial and total knee replacement with the system.

According to AppOrtho orthopedic surgeon Steven Anderson, MD, ARHS may update the technology to use for hip and shoulder procedures as well. AppOrtho employs five physicians.
