Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery in Vancouver, Wash. agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit related to a 2024 data breach, The HIPAA Journal reported Feb. 26.
The practice filed a notice of a data breach in March 2024. The notice stemmed from a February 2024 incident when all of Rebound’s external computer systems went offline, including all patient and scheduling portals. Systems remained down more than two weeks later.
An investigation found an unauthorized party was able to access the company’s IT network and access confidential patient information.
The $2.5 million settlement fund will cover attorneys’ fees and expenses, notification and settlement costs, service awards for the class representatives and benefits for the class members.
