Researchers examined men who were healthy and men with mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy. Both groups ran more than 20 kilometers per week. The participants were tested using maximal isometric plantar flexation efforts, and the Achilles tendon-aponeurosis strain was calculated by dividing tendon displacement during plantar flexation by resting tendon length.

Researchers found that participants with Achilles tendinopathy had significantly higher Achilles tendon-aponeurosis strain.
