Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Anthony Asher of Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates

Anthony Asher, MD, is a neurological surgeon with the Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates in Charlotte, N.C. He was recently named the director of the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Dr. Asher is also on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and has been president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is the founder and director of the National Neurosurgery Quality and Outcomes Database. Currently, Dr. Asher is co-medical director of neuroscience services for Carolinas Healthcare System as well as director of the neurooncology program at the Levine Cancer Institute.

Dr. Asher’s medical interests include micro & endoscopic spine surgery, brain tumors, skull base tumors, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery, trigeminal neuralgia and stereotactic radiosurgery.

He was a fellow at the National Cancer Institute and resident at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr. Asher received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit.
