Researchers Recognized for Orthopedic Surgery Perioperative Outcomes

Researchers from four institutions including Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City were recognized for their research pertaining to perioperative outcomes in orthopedic surgery into clinical practice.

The team received the Team Science Award from the Association for Clinical Training, American Federation for Medical Research, Association for Patient Oriented Research and Society for Clinical and Translational Science during the annual Translational Science meeting in April.

The study included aspects of the perioperative epidemiology such as risk factors and trends of morbidity and mortality, changes in population receiving care and anesthetic techniques. The research initially focused on the safety of bilateral total knee replacement surgery.
