The computer was encrypted with two sets of user names and passwords as well as a biometric finger scan. The practice sent a letter to patients who may have been impacted. The letter stated that the practice has “no reason to believe” the information was accessed or used inappropriately. There haven’t been any reported cases of identity theft connected with the patient information in the laptop.
State residents are able to use the Security Freeze program to gain protection if they are at risk of identity theft.
