Operation Walk USA is a collaborative between The Hip Society, The Knee Society and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Over the next two days, 58 orthopedic surgeons in 16 states at 25 hospitals will perform joint replacement procedure free of charge to the pre-selected patients.
Operation Walk was launched in 1994 by Lawrence D. Dorr, MD, in Moscow as an initiative to provide orthopedic care for underserved populations in developing countries. For Operation Walk USA, Biomet, DePuy, Smith & Nephew, Stryker, Zimmer and Wright Medical Technology have donated hip and knee implants, while Nike has agreed to provide new shoes for each patient.
