Technology company Impellia signs license for PIVOT — 5 things to know

Former NFL quarterback Charlie Batch’s technology company, Impellia, signed the license for PIVOT, according to the New Pittsburgh Courier.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Impellia, co-founded by Mr. Batch, is a sports medicine technology company focused on injury-prevention, human-performance and rehabilitation-focused technology.

 

2. PIVOT is a software platform developed by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine.

 

3. PIVOT non-invasively quantifies the stability of the ACL in the knee and classifies the degree of injury.

 

4. PIVOT can be used both as a pre-surgical diagnostic tool for orthopedic surgeons and as a tool for physical therapists to monitor patients’ progress during the rehabilitation process.

 

5. In addition to PIVOT, Impellia signed options for two other Pitt-developed technologies in 2015, with announcements on completed license agreements expected soon.
