Hospital for Special Surgery’s Susanne Maher Gets $250k for Osteoarthritis Implant Development

Susanne Maher, PhD, a researcher at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, recently received the BioAccelerate NYC Prize of $250,000 and a mentor to assist in bringing her research in product innovation to the market.

Dr. Maher is developing an implant to treat and halt the progression of osteoarthritis. The funds will help her team continue testing on the implants to the point where it can be tested in humans. Her mentor is Frank DeBernardis, founder and CEO of Nascent Ventures.

Dr. Maher is active in the Orthopaedic Research Society, American Society for Testing Materials and American Society for Mechanical Engineering.
