The procedure is the first time the cordless, handheld power tools were used in an orthopedic operation in the United States. Insurgical disposable power tools were cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in November 2012.
Dr. Ferro is the medical director of the Bone & Joint Center in Arroyo Grande, Calif. He has completed a fellowship in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery at Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Arlington, Va. He focuses on partial knee replacements, hip resurfacing, computer-assisted surgery and bearing surface wear reduction.
