Dr. James Andrews performs elbow surgery on Braves pitcher Shae Simmons

James Andrews, MD, founder of the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Pensacola, Fla., performed elbow surgery on Braves relief pitcher Shae Simmons, according to an AJC report.

Mr. Simmons is expected to miss the 2015 season after undergoing ulnar collateral ligament repair in his pitching elbow. He pitched around half of last season and an MRI showed the tear. Dr. Andrews performed the surgery yesterday.

 

Dr. Andrews has performed several surgeries for professional athletes, including recently knee surgery for Detroit Tigers’ Victor Martinez and Philadelphia 76ers’ Tony Wroten.
