Dr. James Andrews Named 2010-2011 Southeastern Conference Team Physician of the Year

James Andrews, MD, founder of Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham (Ala.), was recently named the 2010-2011 Southeastern Conference Team Physician of the Year by the Southern Orthopaedic Association SEC Program, according to an Auburn Football report.

Dr. Andrews serves as medical director for intercollegiate sports at Auburn University. He is also a member of the Medical and Safety Advisory Committee of USA Baseball, serves on the Board of Little League Baseball and is a past president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Andrews has counseled and treated numerous professional athletes and trained more than 250 sports medicine fellows during his career. He earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tulane University Medical School, both in New Orleans. His additional training includes sports medicine fellowships at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and at the University of Lyon in France.
