Dr. David W. Altchek performs shoulder surgery on Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love: 5 things to know

David W. Altchek, MD, of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, performed shoulder surgery on Cleveland Cavaliers’ star forward Kevin Love, reports ESPN.

  1. Mr. Love was injured while playing in the first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics.
  1. He underwent surgery for an acute anterior inferior glenohumeral dislocation with the corresponding ligament/labrum tearing and humeral head bone bruising.
  1. Mr. Love’s recovery period will be four to six months.
  1. His recovery period means he won’t return for the NBA playoffs. The Cavaliers are preparing for the second round games over the next week.
  1. Dr. Altchek is the medical director for the New York Mets and a medical consultant for the NBA among his position as an orthopedic surgeon at HSS, among other sports medicine positions.
