Charles Melone, MD, performed wrist surgery on New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to an ESPN report.

1. Dr. Melone will repair a torn ligament in Mr. Revis’ right wrist.

 

2. Mr. Revis will be in recovery for the next two or three months.

 

3. Dr. Melone practices at the Beth Israel Hand Surgery Center in New York. He is also director of the division of hand surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center and professor of clinical orthopedic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, both in New York.

 

4. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and American Orthopaedic Association.

 

5. He has written over 50 articles on various topics in hand surgery, and his fracture classification, called the Melone Classification of Distal Radius Fractures, is taught to aspiring orthopedic/hand surgeons.
