Tom Gill, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, previously served as medical director for the team. Now, the Red Sox will rely upon a team of physicians: Larry Ronan, MD, will continue as the head team internist and Peter Asnis, MD, has been promoted to head team orthopedist.
The changes reflect a need for an increased level of clinical care in the clubhouse as well as medical staff to address traditional day-to-day needs before the games, according to the news release. The team’s training staff has also been in flux.
