1. Dr. Hawkins is the 42nd recipient of the award.
2. In 1990, Dr. Hawkins teamed up with J. Richard Steadman, MD, to form the Steadman Hawkins Clinic. In 2004, he opened the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas.
3. He currently serves as program director for the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas Fellowship Program and chairman of the Hawkins Foundation.
4. Dr. Hawkins is a founding member and past president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and past president of the Orthopaedic Learning Center.
5. He has published more than 200 articles in a number of journals. His basic and clinical research interests center on the shoulder.
6. The AOSSM award is given annually to honor those who have made a significant contribution to sports medicine and includes a $5,000 donation to the recipient’s charity of choice.
