American College of Sports Medicine & 5 medical societies release consensus statement for team physicians: 3 points

The American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians and four other medical organizations have released a new team physician consensus statement.

Here are three points:

 

1. The statement was published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise and Current Sports Medicine Reports.

 

2. It provides an update to a 2007 statement and offers recommendations on musculoskeletal injuries, head and neck injuries, heat illness, cardiovascular issues, injury reduction/modification and skin infections.

 

3. One of the key recommendations in the statement is the importance of up-to-date treatment information for athletes.
