AAOS Names New Leaders for 2011

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has named several new leaders for 2011, including Daniel Berry, MD, of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., as president, John R. Tongue, MD, of Lake Oswego, Ore., as first vice president, and Joshua Jacobs, MD, of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago, as second vice president according to various AAOS news releases.

Dr. Tongue has served as the organization’s chair of the Academy Board of Councilors and volunteered with numerous committees and task forces. He has received the AAOS Humanitarian Award and the Oregon Medical Association’s Doctor-Citizen of the Year award.

Dr. Jacobs has chaired multiple National Institute of Health study sections and previously held several leadership positions within AAOS. He is a past president of the Orthopaedic Research Society and current president of the United States Bone and Joint Decade.

Other leaders recognized during the AAOS Annual Meeting include Jeffrey Algen, MD, named chair of the Academy Board of Specialty Societies, David Teuscher, MD, elected chair of the Academy Board of Councilors and William J. Best, appointed lay member of the Academy Board of Directors. New members elected to the Academy Board of Directors Include Andrew N. Pollock, MD, Mininder Kocher, MD, and Naomi Shields, MD.
