Nearly 30 state medical societies have joined the campaign, along with several medical groups. By signing the petition, the participants hope to send a message to Congress that they must act to preserve Medicare patients’ access to care.
AAOS believes that further payment cuts to physicians threaten access to quality care, and it believes Congress should make it a priority to enact a permanent fix to Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate formula. It is the organization’s position that the fix should be paid for without borrowing from future Medicare payments and more closely reflect the actual increase in practice costs measured by the Medicare Economic Index.
