The study findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Pain Medicine in April 10 to 14. For the study, researchers analyzed 222 pain management-related smartphone apps available for Android, iPhone and Blackberry devices.
Of the apps reviewed:
• About one-third had no obvious input from a healthcare professional.
• About one-third had an indeterminate amount of input from a healthcare professional.
• Twenty-seven percent had obvious input from a physician.
• Eight percent had input from a non-physician healthcare worker.
