Dr. Ben Carson rejected surgeon general post offer from Obama & Bush: 4 things to know

In an interview on the Alan Colmes Show, a Fox News Radio show, former presidential candidate Ben Carson, MD, claimed that he has rejected offers to serve as the country’s surgeon general, according to The Hill.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. On the radio show, Dr. Carson said that both President Obama and former President George W. Bush had asked him to serve as surgeon general and he rejected the offer.

 

2. Dr. Carson also noted that he has no interest in the job if Republican nominee Donald Trump is elected. However, he will continue to advise Mr. Trump, if asked.

 

3. Dr. Carson has previously criticized the post of surgeon general. In a 2014 interview on the same radio show, Dr. Carson said that the post is ceremonial and offers little power.

 

4. Dr. Carson dropped out 2016 presidential race in March after a disappointing performance on Super Tuesday.
