Carlsmed’s aprevo lumbar fusion implant could see increased CMS reimbursement under if its proposed 2027 rule goes into effect, according to a first-quarter earnings call.

Aprevo’s lumbar fusion already has strong hospital reimbursement, Carlsmed CEO Michael Cordonnier said in a May 5 earnings call. It’s covered by one of 11 different MS-DRG codes.

Under CMS’ proposed 20217 impatient prospective payment system, all aprevo lumbar spinal fusion procedures would be covered by one of three new MS-DRG codes—523, 524, or 525.

“If finalized as proposed, we see this development as very positive for patients, surgeons and hospitals to establish and maintain long-term access to the aprevo lumbar spine fusion procedure,” Mr. Cordonnier said, as transcribed by The Motley Fool.

Carlsmed saw a strong first quarter with $16.1 million in revenue, a 58% increase year over year.
