From a new CEO appointment to several biologics partnerships, last year was a big one for medtech company Zimmer Biomet. 

Here are some of Zimmer Biomet's biggest shake-ups since the start of 2023: 

1. Louis Shapiro, former president and CEO of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, has joined Zimmer Biomet's board of directors. 

2. Zimmer Biomet teamed up with Warsaw, Ind.-based nonprofit OrthoWorx and the Warsaw public school district to prepare high schoolers for careers in the orthopedic manufacturing industry, offering internship opportunities during the school year. 

3. Zimmer Biomet posted $1.7 billion in third quarter sales, with quarterly sales growing 5% year over year. 

4. HippoFi and Zimmer Biomet partnered to develop and launch a novel synthetic biomaterial for bone growth. HippoFi and its subsidiary PUR Biologics have FDA 510(k) clearance for ActiveOrb technology and a global license from Zimmer Biomet to use in the spine market. 

5. Zimmer Biomet promoted orthopedic surgeon and hip and knee reconstruction specialist Nitin Goyal, MD, to its executive leadership team. He serves as the company's chief science, technology and innovation officer. 

6. Zimmer Biomet tapped Ivan Tornos, its chief operating officer, as CEO. 

7. Zimmer Biomet's Persona IQ smart knee implant earned CMS' new technology add-on payment and will enable an additional payment of about $850 more per knee.

8. Zimmer Biomet acquired Ossis, a medical device company specializing in personalized 3D-printed implants for hip replacements. In 2021, Zimmer partnered with Ossis as the company's Asia Pacific partner for 3D-printed titanium hip joint replacements and other pelvic bone replacement surgery.

9. ZimVie, Zimmer Biomet's spinoff company, partnered with Brainlab to support its spine technologies. 

10. Zimmer Biomet signed an agreement to acquire Embody, an orthobiologics company, for $155 million.
