Statesville, N.C.-based Iredell Health System became the first hospital in Iredell County to add Stryker's Mako robot for total joint replacements.

Johnson & Johnson's international robotics debut and five more key updates in orthopedic robotics from the fourth quarter of 2021:

Orthopedic surgeons at White River Medical Center recently completed the hospital's 1,000th joint replacement surgery using Stryker's Mako system, The Jonesboro Sun reported Dec. 30. 

Owensboro (Ky.) Health Regional Hospital added Stryker's Mako robot for joint replacements, the Messenger-Inquirer reported Dec. 30. 

Covington, La.-based Avala Hospital has completed more than 2,000 robotic-assisted surgeries since it began offering the technology in 2018.

Akron, Ohio-based Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center has performed more than 2,000 robotic-assisted joint replacements with Stryker's Mako system.

The first cases using Johnson & Johnson's Velys total knee robot were completed in Australia.

Rome, Ga.-based Floyd Medical Center logged its first case with DePuy Synthes' Velys robot for knee replacements, Coosa Valley News reported Dec. 9.

Bradenton, Fla.-based Coastal Orthopedics is the first practice in the area to offer Stryker's Mako robotic-arm assisted knee replacements, the practice said Dec. 8.

San Francisco-based Roam Robotics is partnering with San Francisco VA Health Care System and San Francisco-based Northern California Institute for Research and Education to evaluate its Ascend smart brace in veterans.
