Elliot Health System in Manchester, N.H. is the first hospital in the state to add a Mako shoulder robot.

The robot uses 3D imaging and haptic guidance to support surgeons with total shoulder replacements. Elliot Health System has leveraged other Mako robots for orthopedic surgery, and since 2017 the system has performed 1,952 Mako-assisted joint replacements, according to a Jan. 8 news release shared with Becker’s.

“The innovative robotic-assisted approach and technology represent a significant step forward in surgical precision and patient-centered care by offering a greater level of surgical confidence,” Kevin Desrosiers, MD, senior vice president and Chief Physician Executive of Elliot Health System, said in the release. “It builds upon the nearly eight years of success of Elliot Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists, who have used Mako technology to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, beginning with the introduction of Mako robotic assisted knee replacement capabilities in 2017 as the first system to offer the procedure in southern New Hampshire at the time.”
