The next generation of Zimmer Biomet’s Rosa Shoulder robot is in the works, CEO Ivan Tornos said in a first quarter earnings call.

Zimmer Biomet’s Rosa Shoulder earned FDA approval and debuted in 2024.

“We are now fully on the full market release … The feedback continues to be very strong,” Mr. Tornos said, as transcribed by Morningstar. “It is surgeon-centered, so we’re not launching a technology that only certain surgeons can use. If you’re an anatomic or reverse type of surgeon, when it comes to technique, you can use ROSA Shoulder for both types of surgery. We are getting really solid data around the accuracy of the platform.”

Zimmer Biomet has plans to scale up the number of Rosa Shoulder units deployed, Mr. Tornos said. And the company is thinking about the next upgrades to Rosa Shoulder.

“We already are actively working on version two,” Mr. Tornos said. “That’s even more efficient than the first-generation ROSA Shoulder, and it is fully integrated to the rest of the ROSA ecosystem.”
