From new leadership appointments to surgical firsts, here are orthopedic surgeons in the headlines from the past month:
- Orthopedic surgeon Scott Boden, MD, was named dean of Indiana University School of Medicine as well as its executive vice president for university clinical affairs.
- Travis Doering, MD, a hand and upper extremity surgeon in Austin, Texas, is designing his practice to be “the first AI native medical clinic in the country.”
- Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center named Harpal Khanuja, MD, chair of orthopedic surgery.
- Nathan Morrell, MD, an associate professor of orthopedics at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, is the first hand surgeon in New Mexico, and among the first in the U.S., to perform a new thumb joint replacement procedure for patients with thumb arthritis.
- Safa Kassab, MD, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based Orthopedic Specialists of Oakland County, performed the first total knee replacement in the U.S. using Pixee Medical’s Knee+ NexSight augmented reality glasses.
- Orthopedic surgeon Richard Berger, MD, celebrated 25 years of performing outpatient surgery.
