Orthopedic surgeon Scott Boden, MD, was named dean of Indiana University School of Medicine as well as its executive vice president for university clinical affairs, according to a May 28 news release.
Dr. Boden will be the 11th dean in the Indianapolis-based school’s 123-year history. He previously spent more than 34 years at Atlanta-based Emory University and was most recently a tenured professor, chair emeritus of orthopedic surgery and vice chair for professional development and innovation.
Dr. Boden succeeds Jay Hess, MD, PhD, who is stepping down from his leadership role in July. Dr. Boden will begin his role with IU on Sept. 8.
“The school already stands out for its outstanding medical education, the strength of its research and its reach across the state,” Dr. Boden said in the release. “There is real momentum at IU and, building on the talent that already exists across the School of Medicine and its clinical partners, I believe the IU School of Medicine can stand among the very best in academic medicine while continuing to expand its impact across Indiana.”
Dr. Boden earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at The George Washington University Medical Center at Washington, D.C.
