Orthopedic surgeon Richard Berger, MD, is celebrating 25 years of performing outpatient surgery, according to a May 6 news release.
Five things to know:
1. Dr. Berger is a hip and knee replacement surgeon with Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush.
2. He has completed more than 20,000 outpatient joint replacements, more than any other orthopedic surgeon in the U.S.
3. Dr. Berger has an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Cambridge-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This background helped him design tissue-sparing implants and instruments to improve patient recovery.
4. Dr. Berger is known as “the doctor who treats the stars and celebrities” since many actors, politicians and athletes have turned to him for hip and knee replacement.
5. Half of Dr. Berger’s patients are from outside Chicago, and he created Berger’s Elective Surgical + Telemedicine (BEST) Experience, a telehealth program to support patients.
