Iron Orthopedics receives Army accolade: 4 things to know

El Paso, Texas-based William Beaumont Army Medical Center’s orthopedic department received Army Medicine’s Wolf Pack Award for fiscal year 2018, the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service reports.

Four things to know:

1. The Wolf Pack Award recognizes teamwork by an integrated group of military and civilian U.S. Army medical providers

2. The orthopedic department, also known as Iron Orthopedics, treated over 33,600 patients and performed more than 4,600 surgeries during fiscal year 2018.

3. In partnership with the 1st Armored Division medical providers, Iron Orthopedics managed to significantly reduce the number of non-deployable soldiers stationed at El Paso-based Fort Bliss.

4. Iron Orthopedics decreased wait times for specialty appointments from 17 days on average to nine days and increased surgical procedure volume by about 50 percent.
