Five insights:
1. TriHealth Evendale Hospital comprises 29 beds, 10 operating rooms, seven procedure rooms and additional space to expand. Currently, 40 percent of the hospital’s procedures are for orthopedic surgery.
2. While TriHealth and Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine did not disclose how much the conversion will cost, the two expect the project to take 18 months.
3. The deal between the health systems is not a merger but an “exclusive development agreement.” Converting the hospital will not affect TriHealth’s or Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine’s existing relationships with orthopedic surgeons and other facility operations.
4. TriHealth has converted hospitals into specialty-centers in the past, including the development of a cardiac surgery-dedicated hospital and dedicated cancer hospital.
5. This is not the first time the health systems have partnered. In 2017, Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and TriHealth partnered to develop a $54 million wellness center at Cincinnati-based Xavier University.
