Dr. Jeremy McCandless performs 1st robot-assisted knee surgery in San Diego with MAKOplasty: 3 quick insights

Sharp Coronado (Calif.) Hospital and Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Calif., are the first in San Diego County to offer robot-assisted total knee surgery with the MAKOplasty robot, the Times of San Diego reports.

Here are three things to know.

1. Sharp Coronado Hospital orthopedic surgeon Jeremy McCandless, MD, performed total knee surgery with the MAKOplasty robot May 5.

2. The first MAKOplasty surgery at Sharp Grossmont Hospital will occur May 10.

3. The Mako System uses CT-based 3D bone anatomy modeling to enable surgeons to create a patient-specific surgical plan. Surgeons can virtually modify the surgical plan intraoperatively.
