25 orthopedic surgeons on the move in August

Here are 25 orthopedic surgeons who joined new health systems, practices and academic programs or entered into new leadership roles in August, as reported by Becker’s.

  1. York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health added 12 physicians to its orthopedic team, growing the group to more than 140 healthcare professionals by the end of September.
  2. Kansas City, Mo.-based Children’s Mercy named Kathryn Keeler, MD, the Dr. Brad and Dawn Olney Chair in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery.
  3. Atlanta-based Northside Hospital added Jamel Hill, MD, an orthopedic and sports medicine physician, to Northside Hospital Orthopedics.
  4. Indianapolis-based Midwest Center for Joint Replacement added Robert Malinzak, MD, a hip and knee replacement surgeon, along with foot and ankle specialists Scott Hoffman, MD, and J. Michael Miller, MD. The practice, a partner of OrthoAlliance, also expanded into a new location in Avon, Ind.
  5. The American Orthopaedic Association selected five physicians as its 2027 American-British-Canadian Traveling Fellows: Kelly Hynes, MD, and Jason Strelzow, MD, both of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis; J. Benjamin Jackson, MD, of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia; Amit Jain, MD, of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore; and Gabriella Ode, MD, of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
  6. Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network named Volker Musahl, MD, to three sports medicine leadership roles: chief sports medicine officer, medical director of international orthopedics and sports medicine, and chief of orthopedic sports medicine research. 
  7. Atlanta-based Resurgens Orthopaedics added 10 subspecialty-trained physicians: sports medicine physicians Jack McKay, MD, Ajit Vakharia, MD, and Dave Ge, MD; orthopedic spine surgeons Ricardo Hernandez, DO, Aaron Hoyt, MD, and Rohan Desai, MD; hip and knee replacement specialists Craig Shul, MD, and Arthur McDowell, MD; physical medicine and rehabilitation physician Nicholas Bender, MD; and hand and upper extremity surgeon Gill Thompson, MD.
  8. Brewer, Maine-based Northern Light Health added Michael Rahl, MD, and Brendan Smith, MD, to Northern Light Orthopedics. Dr. Rahl specializes in foot and ankle surgery, and Dr. Smith specializes in adult hip and knee reconstruction.
  9. Carson City, Nev.-based Barton Health added Marco Mendoza, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon, to Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
  10. CHI Health Orthopedics in Kearney, Neb., part of Omaha, Neb.-based CHI Health, added Justis Stolz, MD, a sports medicine physician.
