Performed by Loyola University Medical Center’s Beejal Amin, MD, the surgeon spreads and dilates the muscles to obtain access to the lumbar spine, instead of cutting through the paraspinal muscles.

Dr. Amin placed a bone graft-filled implant into an empty disc between the vertebrae before he implanted rods and screws to hold a patient’s vertebrae together.

Dr. Amin also performs national lectures on the procedure and is the author of this instructional video.
