Dr. Alksne focuses on the treatment of patients with neurological conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, tic douloureux, facial pain, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and acoustic neuroma.
He is a professor of neurosurgery and former Dean of the UC San Diego School of Medicine and helped establish the UC San Diego Program in Gene Therapy, which incorporates research, training and clinical trials.
Dr. Alksne previously served as chief of neurosurgery at Harbor General Hospital at UC Los Angeles as well as professor and chair of neurological surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
