Here are two recent value-based payment deals that are developing for orthopedic procedures.

Providence, R.I.-based University Orthopedics and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island are developing a new value-based initiative for outpatient total joint replacements. The bundled payment program will transfer some joint replacement procedures from the inpatient- and/or outpatient-hospital setting to UO's new ASC in East Providence, R.I.

Episodes of care company Remedy partnered with Regence in a value-based program to enhance the cost and quality of care for Regence members. The program, Episodes of Care, is Regence's first value-based program to focus on clinical procedures, beginning with orthopedics and maternity.
