KFx Medical sued Stryker for alleged patent infringement on the knotless double row rotator cuff repair procedure. According to Ropes & Gray, Stryker submitted an “objective indicia of non-obviousness” to challenge KFx Medical’s patent ownership, but the patent has been previously upheld when facing scrutiny.
The company was successful in defending the patent against similar Arthrex technology, and Arthrex paid $35 million in damages and interest for the infringement in 2016.
KFx Medical does have licensing agreements with Wright Medical Technology in addition to other companies to promote the use of the knotless double row rotator cuff repair products and techniques.
